Case report
A 5-week-old girl with a medical history remarkable for multiple congenital anomalies, including a severe cardiac malformation, underwent MR imaging (Telsa 3) for evaluation of spina bifida. The patient was placed under general anesthesia (to prevent movement) for the length of the imaging session. Upon completion of the scan, a full thickness burn with evident demarcation between necrotic tissue and viable skin was diagnosed, encompassing her right forearm and wrist in the area where a
Discussion
We believe a thermal burn to be accountable for this injury. An electrical source is not suspected noting the absence of both a characteristic exit wound and any additional injury. The pattern and extent of the burn and orientation of the pulse oximeter suggest a looping of wire around the wrist had occurred. We therefore conclude that during the 40 min MR session, an injury resulted from tissue heating: a consequence of an induced conducting loop. Additionally, the position of the two metal
