Good plastic surgeons continually evaluate their results and figure out ways to improve them even when they are happy with their current outcomes.

Such is the case with this manuscript describing the introduction of the bolster equalization suture technique (BEST) for neck skin redraping and rejuvenation in necklift surgery.

 The authors evaluated a total of 40 patients who were operated on by Dr Henry Mentz, a frequent contributor to our national meetings. A total of 20 patients were treated with BEST and prospectively evaluated.

The comparative group was a total of 20 patients who were previously operated on by Dr Mentz and evaluated retrospectively; these patients were treated with the author's conventional face and neck lift technique without the application of BEST.

The bolster equalization suture technique described by Mentz et al has some elements in common with Andre Auersvald's hemostatic net, in that its purpose is to control skin redraping over the underlying tissue.

In this case, the authors applied 3 transcutaneous sutures at 3 distinct neck defining points: overlying the hyoid bone and bilateral sternocleidomastoid fascia at the gonial angle to define the cervicomandibular and cervicomental angles, key components of a youthful neck.
